The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are considering developing a new “cyber offensive operation arm” to make better use of new ‘disruptive’ powers. The powers were granted in August 2021, by the Surveillance Legislation Amendment (Identify and Disrupt) Act 2021.
Commissioner Reece Kershaw told Senate Estimates that the police force intends to take a more aggressive cyber posture and is considering an internal restructure to boost its offensive capability.
