• The government has passed the Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure) Bill 2021, which will grant the government heightened powers to intervene in the cyber security responses of private organisations.
• Revenue NSW has turned to AI and data analytics to detect fraudulent COVID-19 business grants provided by the state government.
• Annie Parker and Liza Noonan have been appointed as the new leaders of Tech Central and the Westmead Health and Innovation districts, respectively.
• The government will spend $242.7 million on creating four new research and industry hubs under the Trailblazer Universities initiative. Each hub will cover a national priority area within the government’s Modern Manufacturing Strategy.
• NSW executive director of ICT procurement Mark Lenzner has announced that the state will outsource technology jobs to multinational companies in order to build its capability and capacity.
• The Prime Minister has announced that the government is set to release the Australian Data Strategy before the end of 2021. This will be the Federal Government’s first WofG data strategy.
• The Digital Transformation Agency has launched a new website to help government service providers find support in building security to protect high-value government data. The Hosting Certification Framework website offers three levels of certification for data systems and simplifies the process to help agencies reach ‘protected’ level classification by mid-2022.
• The Victorian government has released the 2021-2026 Digital Strategy, which outlines the state’s vision which ‘balances aspiration with pragmatism to set [Victoria] up for a successful digital transformation.’
