The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has elected to stay with its incumbent supplier Macquarie Telecom for the provision of secure internet gateway services to the Department and its 11 client agencies, under a scheme to consolidate the number of gateways in operation across the Federal Government from 124 to just eight.
DAFF has not disclosed a value for the contract, which has yet to appear on AusTender. However its previous gateway contract with Macquarie was worth just over $4 million for a five year term and the company’s Managing Director of hosting Aidan Tudehope told the Australian Financial Review that the deal would be worth “multi-million dollars per annum”.

The Queensland Government has appointed Mary Goodwin as its new Chief Procurement Officer, to oversee an annual expenditure of “$6 billion annually on goods and services and $4.5 billion on capital assets/works,” according to the Brisbane Times. Goodwin will replace Evelyn Jelliffe. A spokesperson for Housing and Public Works Minister Bruce Flegg told the newspaper that Goodwin’s appointment follows a targeted executive search.
The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has advised Computerworld that Federal Government agencies are “expected to have their external facing ICT systems IPv6 capable by [the end of] December 2012”.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) has pushed back a whole suite of ICT approaches to market, according to updated agency procurement plans. The delayed procurements include:
- Data centre network monitoring tools;
- Establishment of an ICT cabling and rack services panel;
- A mainframe resource management tool; and
- Mobile Phone application infrastructure and environment for testing purposes
The DHS has also followed up its Express Plus Students mobile application designed for recipients of Youth Allowance payments, with a second one targeted at job seekers. Human Services Minister Kim Carr says that the Express Plus Students app has already been downloaded 55,000 times since it was launched two months ago.
ITWire reported that Adam Internet has been awarded a ten year contract to supply backup data centre services to South Australia’s Department of Health, which will assist in the operation of the State’s Electronic Patient Administration System (EPAS).
